Introduction
At Portland Care Group we are committed to ensuring that Human Trafficking and Modern Slavery is not taking place in our business or our supply chain.
Although we are not legally obliged to report on slavery and human trafficking, this statement is made in accordance with section 54(1) of the Modern Slavery Act 2015.
Organisational structure, business and supply chains
Portland Care Group provide care services situated in the Sheffield area. Our client group comprises of adults under and over the age of 65 years who require residential and/or nursing care, Complex Mental Health, and neurorehabilitation. These clients may be social care, health care or self -funded. Our supply consists of UK based reputable, ethical suppliers who are recognised across the social care sector.
Policy on slavery and human trafficking
Our organisation is committed to ensuring that there is no modern slavery or human trafficking in any part of our business or in our supply chains. This policy reflects our commitment to acting ethically and with integrity in all our business relationships. We review the Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking statements of our supply chains, engaging only with suppliers who reflect our vision and values.
Due diligence
The company recognises the existence of risk regarding slavery and human trafficking, and we foster a culture that encourages the identification and reporting of any such risks within our business.
All our employees are recruited either directly or through recruitment agencies and where overseas employees are employed, we adhere to legislator requirements regarding right to work and sponsorship of overseas workers.
Portland Care Group embraces a safer recruitment policy where the ‘Right to Work’ is checked for all potential employees and ensure that this is maintained for our overseas colleagues.
We check the qualifications of all employees and obtain references from previous employers. DBS checks are carried out on all potential employees and where appropriate overseas police checks are carried out.
Colleagues are paid through the payroll system, and payments are made to their person specific bank accounts.
We have a whistleblowing policy which is shared with all colleagues, and we protect whistleblowers.
Training
To ensure a high level of understanding of the risks of modern slavery and human trafficking in our supply chains and our business, we provide training to our staff.
All Directors have been adequately informed on this matter.
Our Effectiveness in Combating Slavery & Human Trafficking
To measure how effective we have been to ensure that slavery and human trafficking is not taking place in any part of our business or supply chains we:
Use labour monitoring and payroll systems; and
Maintain communication and personal contacts with our supply chain and their understanding of, and compliance with, our expectations.
This statement is made pursuant to section 54(1) of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and constitutes our slavery and human trafficking statement for the current financial year.
